About Segmentation

The Segmentation Model by Marketing Science Limited is a user-friendly web application designed to analyse behavioural data and create AI-powered personas. Ideal for marketing, research, or business analytics, this tool turns complex data into clear, actionable insights. The app allows users to upload their own consumer data via a simple CSV file, which must include an “ID” column and numeric values (e.g., purchase frequency, engagement metrics). The system then automatically processes this data, providing instant results that reveal distinct customer segments based on their attributes and behaviours.

The process follows a clear, step-by-step workflow:

Data Input: Users upload their behavioural data via a CSV file or the provided template.

 

Standardisation: The data is automatically standardised using Z-scores to ensure fair comparisons across different metrics.

 

Factor Analysis: The tool identifies hidden patterns in the data using statistical methods like Principal Component Analysis (PCA). If enabled, AI generates descriptive names for these factors based on the most influential variables.

 

Clustering: Data points are grouped into 2–9 clusters using K-means clustering. The application calculates the optimal number of clusters and provides visualisations to show group distinctions.

 

Persona Profiles: For each cluster, the tool creates AI-generated personas, including detailed profiles with behavioural traits and preferences. These personas are powered by Ai and offer clear, actionable insights.

 

Export Results: All analysis results can be exported to an Excel file, with each data type saved in a separate sheet for easy review.

Privacy and Data Protection Policy

This policy outlines how Marketing Science Limited (MSL) handles the data you upload to our Segmentation Web App. Our primary goal is to ensure your data is processed securely and is promptly and permanently deleted once your session ends.

 

Data Collection and Use

The MSL Segmentation Web App processes data you voluntarily upload via a provided CSV or Excel template. This data may include behavioural attributes, and other customer-related variables. It is the user’s responsibility to ensure that any data uploaded does not contain any Personally Identifiable Information (PII) such as names, email addresses, or phone numbers. Our system is designed to process data sets containing attributes or variables, not individual identities.

 

Data Processing and Security

All data uploaded to the web app is processed in-session. The data resides temporarily in our server’s RAM and is used exclusively for the purpose of generating segmentation results. We use robust security measures to protect your data during this process. The connection between your browser and our server is secured using SSL/TLS encryption.

 

Data Retention and Deletion Policy

We have a strict no-retention policy for user data.

 

Session-Based Deletion: Once you press the ‘Terminate Session’ button, all uploaded data and generated results are immediately and permanently deleted from our servers.

 

Automatic Deletion: If a session becomes inactive for a set period (e.g., 30 minutes), the system will automatically terminate the session and delete all associated data to ensure no lingering information remains.

 

No Backups: We do not create backups of any uploaded data. The data exists only for the duration of your active session.

 

Your Responsibilities

To ensure maximum privacy and data protection, you must adhere to the following guidelines:

 

Anonymized Data: Please ensure that any data you upload is completely anonymized and does not contain any PII. Our system is not configured to handle or secure such sensitive information.

 

Data Accuracy: You are responsible for the accuracy and legality of the data you upload.

 

By using the MSL Segmentation Web App, you consent to the terms of this Privacy and Data Protection Policy.

How to Get Started

To use the segmentation model, you’ll first need to download the provided template. This template is your key to getting started. Once you have it, simply add your own numerical data, making sure the type of data is the same as the example.

You can customize the headers to reflect your specific metrics. The model is built to work best with preference and agreement scales—for example, “how likely are you to use/buy/prescribe a service?” These scales allow us to assign values to variables, which are then used in the K-means cluster analysis.

If you don’t have enough data to fill all the columns, don’t worry—just leave the remaining cells as zeros, and the system will cleverly ignore those columns. We recommend using a sample of at least 300 rows of data, typically generated from a survey of your target audience. If you don’t have this data yet, we can help you with some low-cost solutions to get started.

After you’ve added your data to the template, you’re ready to upload it and let the model do its work!
